Apple Picking in Warwick, NY

Well… I think apple picking is our new favorite fall tradition 🍎

Where my husband and I grew up (Virginia Beach, VA), the closest apple orchard was 4+ hours away so we had never experienced it until last year, right before our son was born.

See? (soooo pregnant!)

Soooo pregnant… 🙈

One cool thing about living in northern NJ, is that you live near A LOT of farms and orchards. And they’re usually right next to each other. Our two favorite places to go for apple picking are both in Warwick, NY—Apple Ridge Orchards and Penning’s Farm Cidery.

Apple Ridge Orchards:

Pros—more family-friendly with the added bonus of a petting zoo/hayrides, orchard is slightly bigger, and also has peach and pumpkin picking options as well at different times of the year.

Pennings Farm Cidery:

Pros—fun with or without kids so a great date option (you know, when you have time and help for those kind of things). Has a bar and sells their own cider (regular or alcoholic), offers different food options (pizza and BBQ 😋), and live music! Pennings is also right across the street from the Warwick Drive In Theatre—which will be great when our kids are older and we can grab some cider and go to the movies!

I’ve never seen my kids eat more apples than when we’re picking them—also, to anyone who tripped over their half-eaten ones that ended up on the ground… I’m sorry. And we might need to go back soon because we’re already halfway through our haul and we haven’t even dipped into apple recipes yet!
