Ellis' Big Girl Bed Adventures!

We did it! We moved Ellis into her very own “big girl” bed!

And it’s brought on a lot of feelings… mostly from me. How is my baby already out of the crib? 😭

She, on the other hand, is thoroughly enjoying herself. If she could, she would be jumping on her bed 24/7. (Why do kids automatically start jumping on beds when they get on one? It’s like they know the fastest way to give their parents heart attacks and just go for it!).

Anyways… before I go down the “where did my baby go?” spiral, let me share our bed transition journey.

I will preface this by saying that I did not seek advice or look up tips before we jumped into this. I went 100% by gut on this one. I just had a feeling she was ready and went for it. I’m sure she will regress in some ways—especially when her little brother arrives—but I think letting her take the lead on this one has really made all of the difference. Now… if only potty training was just as simple… but that’s for another day.

Steps We Took…

First, we treated the move like a test. We brought in a mattress from another room and placed it on the floor. We kept the crib in her room just in case it didn’t work out and she had it to escape, if needed.

Second, we moved her dockatot with her. She’s been sleeping in one since she was born (and it’s one of my top baby registry items!), so she’s already comfortable with it. We will eventually wean her out of it, because we want to start getting her more serious about potty training and our son will need it by the time he’s 9 months old.

Third, we kept her bedtime routine the same. Bath (if it’s a bath night), milk, read a couple of her favorite books, and then it’s in bed with her blanket and slumberkins (also a top registry item of mine!).

And last, we made the whole process a big deal. We got her her own special bedding, let her jump on the bed (with supervision, of course!), and we celebrate in the mornings when she sleeps through the night.

Updated Toddler Room…

Here’s what it looked like before the bed update!

We still have some work to do in this room before I can deem it finished (are rooms every truly finished?), but I think the new bed works so much better in this space! Also, bedding is one of my favorite things to shop for and this set gives me heart eyes for days 😍

Ok… I think I’m ready to go down the “where did my baby go?” spiral now. Especially now that her crib is moving into Jack’s future nursery (and how is it almost October and I will be a mom of two soon?). Ohhhh so many emotions for this pregnant lady.

Until next time…
